Associate Professor Jeni Paay, Ph.D.

I am currently in the role of Associate Professor in Interaction Design in the School of Design at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne.

Prior to that I was Associate Professor in the Research Centre for Socio+Interactive Computing, Aalborg University, Denmark, for seven years. I worked for CSIRO Sydney as Lead Interaction Designer, Senior Scientist, on the HxI project for two years. I was awarded a PhD in “Indexing to Situated Interactions” from The University of Melbourne in 2006. This was a cross-disciplinary study between HCI and Architecture with supervisors Professor Steve Howard and Professor Bharat Dave. Prior to this I was a lecturer at The University of Tasmania for over ten years, introducing HCI, as a course, to Tasmania.

My leadership roles include:

  • Centre for Design Innovation, program leader “User Experience for Services: Tourism, Health and Retail”.
  • Smart Cities Research Institute, program leader “Future Spaces for Living”.

I have a cross-disciplinary background spanning architecture, computer science, and interaction design. My research is within the overall themes of:

  • User Experience of Technology,
  • Design methods for HCI, and
  • Interaction Design for urban and domestic computing.
